SOFY, one of alt-pop’s most vital voices, continues to impress with her ever-evolving creativity. Her latest offering, the 9-track mixtape Chaos & Commotion, is a testament to the tumultuous journey she’s navigated over the past year and a half. In this body of work, SOFY takes us on a compelling ride, spanning from dizzying heights of love to the depths of despair, from peaks of self-assuredness to valleys of introspection. This emotional rollercoaster is beautifully portrayed in the songs leading up to the mixtape’s release, such as “socks,” and the follow-up singles “supermarket” and “WET PAINT” all of which have collectively garnered thousands of streams and many praises..

Reflecting on the project, SOFY describes it as a time capsule. Her ever-shifting headspace is vividly portrayed, with no two songs on this record sounding alike. Chaos & Commotion exudes a newfound confidence and an adventurous spirit that goes beyond her previous work, seamlessly incorporating a wide range of musical influences. The chameleonic tendencies of SOFY demonstrated within the project is not only confirmation of SOFY’s prowess as a modern day storyteller but also sonic acrobat with elasticity to span a multitude of genres at such a credible level.  As she shares, each song expresses a different part of me and the rollercoaster period of time that this record represents; falling in love one moment and out of love the next, going from feeling like I’m on top of the world to feeling like the world is moving without me, frustration and hope and anger and humour. I’ve lived, breathed and been totally engrossed in this world for the last year, so I just hope everyone straps in and enjoys the ride with me.”

Leading the charge, single YoYo couldn’t be anymore aptly titled as a reflection of this journey she narrates within the project. Sonically, however, it opens up a new door for SOFY. With a chorus of anthemic potential, the 3 minute offering delves into a darker, edgier soundscape with the aid of a thrashy guitar riffs and slurry vocals. A track made for those gigs where your feet stick to the floor. In her own words, SOFY expands; It definitely feels like an evolution of my sound, so I immediately wanted it to be Track 1 on the mixtape because it’s a bit of a statement – “welcome to the chaos and commotion era, keep your arms and legs inside the ride and please fasten your seatbelts!!
