BOSTON OFFICIALLY DECLARES MARCH 2ND ‘BURNA BOY’ DAY

COMES ON THE HEELS OF BURNA’S HISTORIC PERFORMANCE AT THE 66TH ANNUAL GRAMMY AWARDS

BURNA CONTINUES INTERNATIONAL I TOLD THEM… TOUR WITH NEXT STOP IN WASHINGTON, D.C. ON MARCH 7TH

The African Giant continues to make history as the city of Boston officially declares March 2nd ‘Burna Boy Day.’ “For too long, mainstream narratives have marginalized African voices and overlooked the richness of the continent’s cultural heritage,” a proclamation from Boston City Council President Ruthzee Louijeune reads. “With Burna Boy’s rise to prominence highlighting a shift in this paradigm.” The declaration was received ahead of Burna’s performance at TD Garden that night. It also comes on the heels of Burna’s historic performance at the 66th Annual Grammy Awards.

Burna Boy made his return to the GRAMMYs for the 5th consecutive year as the most nominated Nigerian artist this year while also becoming the first Afro-fusion artist to perform on the GRAMMY mainstage. He performed a medley of his album tracks “On Form,” “City Boys,” and “Sittin’ On Top Of The World” and was joined by 21 Savage and Brandy. Burna has been nominated ten times throughout his career including his nominations at this year’s GRAMMY Awards. Those nominations include Best Melodic Rap Performance for the chart-topping “Sittin’ on Top of the World” featuring 21 SavageBest Global Music Album for his seventh studio album I Told Them…, Best Global Music Performance for “Alone” which is featured on the also nominated “Black Panther: Wakanda Forever” soundtrack and the newly created Best African Music Performance for “City Boys.”

He snagged his first nomination at the 62nd Annual GRAMMY Awards for Best World Music Album for his fourth studio album African Giant followed by his win for Best Global Music Album for his fifth studio album, Twice As Tallat the 63rd Annual GRAMMY Awards (making him the first to win in the newly renamed category). Since then, he’s been nominated for Best Global Music Performance at the 64th Annual GRAMMY Awards for his record with Angelique Kidjo, “Do Yourself” and his nominations for Best Global Music Performance for the Platinum RIAA certified hit “Last, Last” and “Best Global Music Album” for his sixth studio album, Love, Damini for the 65th Annual GRAMMY Awards.
