Acclaimed Reading-based rapper, Songer, is on the brink of another milestone in his illustrious career as he unveiled his latest focus track, “WIDE AWAKE,” during Clara Amfo’s ‘World’s Hottest Record’ segment on BBC Radio 1, aired on Thursday, March 21st. Amfo was joined by Songer in the BBC Radio 1 studio as the track premiered  across international airwaves.

Following the chart-topping success of his previous hits, including Toxic (Freestyle),” which soared to 29 on the UK charts, surpassing releases from fellow UK rappers Central Cee, Skepta, Unknown T, and AJ Tracey, Songer continues to solidify his position as one of the industry’s most versatile and sought-after artists.

WIDE AWAKEencapsulates a sharp, bouncy vibe that reimagines the essence of UK hip-hop. The interplay between rich dynamic overtones and punchy 808s establishes a harmonious balance, immersing listeners in Songer’s sonic world. Nostalgia intertwines seamlessly with innovation as themes of escapism, introspection, and the dichotomy between external socialising and internal struggles of the mind are delicately explored.

Reflecting on the inspiration behind “WIDE AWAKE,” Songer shared, “’WIDE AWAKE’ is a song that balances the chaotic excitement of partying, with the complexities of having a mind that doesn’t sleep. With a pitched down chorus and a beat that changes constantly throughout, it’s a journey of all the cause and consequences of nights out. This varies from women, to dancing, to the need to distract yourself from your own reality.”

With the release of “WIDE AWAKE,” Songer brings his highly anticipated mixtape, “THE PRICE OF THERAPY,” one step closer. The 9-track project is a testament to the rapper’s metamorphic power. From the James Blake-esque production in “Find Peace” to maintaining the highest degree of rap lyricism, each track unfolds with its own unique personality, showcasing Songer’s ability to straddle multiple genres while remaining consistent in his own lane.

Songer’s remarkable ascent stands as a testament to his genuine artistic prowess. Garnering the accolade of being named the top artist by 15,000 listeners on Spotify Wrapped 2023, his trajectory over the past year has been nothing short of impressive. Songer’s following and streams have nearly doubled, reflecting a deep and meaningful connection with an ever-expanding fan base. With each new release, Songer consistently pushes the boundaries of his craft while delivering authentic and heartfelt music that resonates with audiences across the globe.
