Close behind recent single ‘Big House’ and her Maida Vale session for Radio 1’s Future Artists with Jack Saunders, open-hearted offering ‘His Sofa’ continues to earn Ella her place as one of the next generation’s storytellers.

A propulsive rush of dazed guitars with a bolder sound than we’ve heard from her previously; ‘His Sofa’ walks a tightrope through climatic choruses and subdued verses over Ella’s distinctive raspy vocal.

It’s a love song filled with insecurities.” explains Nieve Ella. “It was written at a time when I felt so vulnerable, being new to a relationship I had never experienced before. It’s an overreaction and none of it is true but I wanted a song I could scream in the car, on stage, in my room.”

His Sofa’ arrives alongside a visualiser acting as the song’s aesthetic anchor and directed by previous collaborator Joe Horridge (Wasia Project, Renao, grentperez).

With sincerity as her superpower Ella alerted the UK music scene to her magic earlier this year, with her debut EP ‘Young & Naive’. Doubling down on her earnest inward lyricism melded to the ambiance of 90’s guitar-pop, the 5-tracker featuring recent hits ‘Glasshouses’ and ‘19 In A Week’ explores a grab-bag of relatable teenage themes as Ella’s voice, breezy and rich, heals broken hearts through hooks and harmonies.

20-year-old Ella has already gained the attention of BBC Radio 1’s Introducing, Greg James and Jack Saunders, whilst racking up over 2.2 million streams as well as stellar praise from media including NME, DORK, Clash, The Line of Best Fit, The Forty-Five, Gigwise, Wonderland, Hunger and more. It’s a testament to Nieve’s raw talent for authentic and vulnerable songwriting at such a young age. There is no grandstanding, no attempt at hiding how truly confusing it is to be young. It’s why Ella and her songs continue to connect and her fanbase grow exponentially, earmarking her as one of 2023’s most exciting new artists.

Following closely from supporting Dylan on her recent European tour alongside dates with Inhaler, Nieve Ella will be playing an impressive run of festival dates this summer including All Points East, Reading & Leeds, Barn On The Farm, TRNSMT, Standon Calling and many more…
