‘DIRT IN THE DIAMOND’ OUT NOW VIA MOTOWN RECORDS UK

Jords is easily one of the most talented artists in the country right now, someone who can
honestly do anything – as a rapper, he moves in multiple lanes, while he’s also blessed with amelodic singing voice and a palpable sense of charisma

Today, Croydon-hailing singer, songwriter, producer and rapper Jords unleashes ‘FIST IN THE SKY’ from his forthcoming album project ‘DIRT IN THE DIAMOND’. The captivating and soulful track features Coventry-based singer songwriter Jordan Mackampa and stands proudly as a focal point of the ‘DIRT IN THE DIAMOND’ album project, out now.

Jam-packed full of soul, tinged with gospel and laced with Jords’ idiosyncratic style of rap, the heart and veracity in the song’s instrumentation forms alignment with Jords’ childhood, obsessed with his father’s roots in jazz, soul and R&B; elevated further by Jordan Mackampa’s timeless and rich vocal. He says, “Fist in the sky is finding beauty in the struggle, strength in the vulnerability, and power through the fight.”

Alongside today’s release, Jords launches the third and final part of the ‘DIRT IN THE DIAMOND’ short film, entitled ‘FIST IN THE SKY’. Partnering with award winning British-Nigerian director Renee Osubu, the captivating visual echoes the track’s sentiments, leaning into catharsis, joy, empowerment and the nuances of Black British expression through fusing archival footage with more recent cuts to powerful effect.

FIST IN THE SKY’ follows the recent single releases and visuals for ‘iPray,’ featuring one of his icons Wretch 32 and double single release ‘Stay Close’ featuring Kranium and ‘Mo Bay’ featuring Tay Iwar. Jords and Osubu explore a beautiful juxtaposition of both joy and grief, while a poignant display of community and intergenerational dialogue remains front and centre. Watch Part 1 (Mo Bay/Stay Close) HERE, and watch Part 2 (I Pray) HERE. The short film serves as an elevation to the traditional music video, instead ushering audiences to experience a broad thematic and cinematic musical composition.

From his first release in 2016, through the tender 2020 project ‘Almost An Adult’ and 2022’s ‘Swings And Roundabouts’ EP, right up to his anticipated album, growth and exploration remains at the very heart of Jords’ artistry, with a core focus on celebrating Black culture in full technicolour. ‘DIRT IN THE DIAMOND’ saw its final metamorphosis across quarter one of 2022, alongside the guidance of prolific producer, drummer and MD Joshua McKenzie (MckNasty) and it was recorded on the same desk that Prince used for Purple Rain.

Jords has also announced his headline tour this autumn; starting in September in Nottingham, the nine-date run will wrap triumphantly at London’s Jazz Café on the 17 th October.

The ‘DIRT IN THE DIAMOND’ album is the first UK rap album to be released on Motown Records and is the convincing tale of Jords himself. He shares, “I just want this album to touch people,” he shares. “I want them to understand who I am and why I’m here.
