Hudson Mohawke and Tiga, collectively known as Love Minus Zero, release their collaborative album, L’Ecstasy. The creative partnership between Hudson Mohawke and Tiga expresses a mutual love of “hardcore romance,” a liminal state where the bounds between euphoria, melancholy, and the raw power of friendship disintegrate completely. Recorded in Los Angeles from 2019-2023, these commonalities ebbed and flowed through various recording sessions, ultimately giving rise to their inaugural album – L’Ecstacy.
In crafting the soundscape of the album, Hudson Mohawke articulates, “all come from the same place, the same musical universe. We’re building a particular kind of zone where it all fits together. A place lost in time.” And echoing this sentiment, Tiga adds, “I like the idea of bizarre semi-random things getting thrown together. In fact, I love it. That’s already part of how me and HudMo work. I bring things and he brings things, and those things normally might not mix. There’s an odd-couple aspect about us, but that’s the best part of it.”
Within this musical journey lies the previously unveiled single, “Silence of Love,” a resounding anthem in the realm of acid-house for the year. Hudson Mohawke and Tiga gracefully step into the background, allowing the spotlight to be seized by the soulful vocals of the extraordinary Jesse Boykins III. The album also features guest appearances by luminaries like Abra and Channel Tres.
The project’s artwork was created by famed photographer Wolfgang Tillmans, who graciously reached out after hearing the track during the LMZ Sonar performance in Barcelona. Tillmans said the track struck “a Herznote, or chord close to the heart.” This evocative description was exactly the kind of reaction the duo had hoped to inspire: “Normally you’ll just accept ‘genre-defying’ or ’nuts-to-the-wall’ as a compliment and move on,” says Tiga. “But we saw our intention reflected in his words. Getting to collaborate with a world-class artist like Wolfgang validates the very idea of having emotions at all.”
