‘IN SEPARATION’ EP OUT JULY 14TH – PRE-SAVE HERE

SOARING NEW SINGLE “THE BASEMENT” OUT NOW

Following on from the enormous success of their recent single “Love In The Afternoon“, which was supported by BBC Radio 1 Future Artists with Jack Saunders, Gemma Bradley’s BBC Introducing Show, and Dave Monks’ Introducing show on BBC Radio Merseyside, Nottingham’s indie-rock troubadours Blondes have now announced plans for their next EP ‘In Seperation‘, showcased by the soaring new single The Basement.

After the rapturous support for their 2021 collection ‘Out The Neighbourhood‘, Blondes knew that their next steps had extremely big boots to fill. Produced in parts by Rich Turvey and Antony Genn, ‘In Separation’ sees them showcase some of their most passionate songwriting to date, capturing a beautifully warm and effervescent atmosphere in the process.

Adding about the new EP, they said, “Our new EP ‘In Separation’ is a collection of songs written and recorded over the past two years. It’s a project that explores the ways in which we become disconnected from one another, taking you on an emotional journey through separation to reconciliation. It speaks to the ways we live with and without each other. We feel it reflects more of the breadth of our songwriting than our first project, with us having matured a little both personally and musically since ‘Coming of Age’ and our ‘Out the Neighbourhood’ EP.”

Highlighting this next phase within their musical evolution is the beautifully luxurious new offering The Basement. With its rich and driven direction, cemented with some superbly executed The Cure-esque textures throughout, this new outing looks to build upon their already accomplished sound to date.

Adding about “The Basement”, “This is a song that started as a demo during the first lockdown, and it was written pretty much completely remotely by emailing it to each other and adding parts! Fittingly, it’s a song about feeling isolated and looking for a way out, which I imagine was a very well known feeling for everyone at that time. I love the energy of this track and the way it dials up in the choruses. We returned to work with Rich Turvey on this one, who produced the majority of our first EP. He helped take the demo we’d made and step it up into the thumping single-ready track it’s become.”

‘In Separation’ Tracklist:
1. Love in the Afternoon
2. The Basement
3. Beautiful World
4. Best Friends
5. Does It Rain on You?
6. Conversations

Drawing upon their experiences as four young adults coming of age in unusual times, Blondes capture both the euphoria and nostalgia of growing up in their unique brand of guitar and synth driven indie pop.

First forming at the University of Nottingham at the end of 2017, the foursome grew a loyal following of local fans, eager to get their hands onto copies of their self-released EP. After two years of playing bars and eventually filling local venues, including a sold-out show at Rough Trade, the real eureka moment for Blondes came in the summer of 2019. Having attended Glastonbury Festival, the band were inspired to continue making music and finally finish writing a song that Alex had started years previously; a song about chasing dreams that would eventually develop into “Coming of Age‘. “Here, something really could happen”, the anthemic chorus became the band’s self-fulfilling prophecy.

In October 2020, their single ‘Coming of Age’ became an overnight viral sensation on TikTok, clocking more than 1.7 billion views to date. Thousands of videos featuring the song appeared across the platform, racking up millions of views. Suddenly, Blondes were trending on the internet. In response, TikTok launched an official ‘Coming of Age’ trend on behalf of the band. Streams of the song went through the roof, and record labels across the world began to take notice of the 4 young friends.
