ARLO PARKS ANNOUNCES DEBUT BOOK ‘THE MAGIC BORDER’

SOPHOMORE ALBUM MY SOFT MACHINE OUT NOW

“The most tender and tactile collection. Arlo Parks writes poetry you can taste…An embrace of a book”Florence Welch

“Arlo Parks pulls beauty around her as a war tactic, and she shares the spoils with us. I am grateful and invigorated”Katie Gavin, MUNA

On the heels of the release of her critically acclaimed sophomore album, My Soft Machine, Arlo Parks is now a published writer, having recently signed an international book deal with Harper Collins (4th Estate and Dey Street). Arlo returns to announce her first book, a poetry anthology titled THE MAGIC BORDER: Poetry and Fragments from My Soft Machine. The collection of poetry, out on September 12th, features 20 brand-new original poems as well as the complete lyrics to My Soft Machine, and exclusive new photographs by Daniyel Lowden.

Arlo shares about her writing process and what this collection means to her in the visual here where she notes, “Writing poetry, to me, is about profound interiority. It is about wading into the saltwater of your own body, capillaries bursting, eyes brimming, unmoored. This collection is the fruit of that inner probing. It is a tangled mass of everything that has made me angry or giddy or low or impossibly happy to be alive. It has taken me almost twenty-three years to share my poetry beyond a few trusted friends. Poetry was my place, my little clearing in the forest, where I could quietly put everything I was holding. I’m not sure what gave me the courage to open up that space to you but here I am, doing it. I am proud to show you this personal lens that life shimmers through. This book is no longer mine. It is yours.”

The announcement of the poetry book follows Arlo’s recently released critically acclaimed album, My Soft Machine, a significant milestone in the twice Grammy-nominated, Mercury Prize, and BRIT Award-winning artists already illustrious career. The album is a testament to her growth as an artist, showcasing her unique storytelling ability and introspective lyricism. Recorded between London and Los Angeles, the album features an impressive roster of producers including Paul Epworth, Ariel Rechtshaid, Romil Hemnani (Brockhampton), Buddy Ross (known for collaborations with Frank Ocean), Carter Lang (known for working with SZA), and self-production from Arlo herself. Leading into the release Arlo has graced the covers of Paste Magazine, GQ Hype, The Guardian Film & Music, DORK, MusicWeek, DIY and Gay Times.

My Soft Machine follows her highly-praised debut album Collapsed in Sunbeams, which received two Grammy nominations for Best New Artist and Best Alternative Music Album, won the BRIT Award for Best New Artist, received the Honda Mercury Prizeand won the BBC Introducing Artist Of The Year Award. Her debut album also reached the top 3 on the UK Album Charts and won the AIM Awards for Best Independent Album and UK Independent Breakthrough. On top of all this, Arlo was also nominated for Breakthrough International Act at the BET Awards. Arlo was named as the youngest ever high-profile supporter of UNICEF and an ambassador for UK mental health charity CALM. She has plans to continue her extensive work with both charities.
