YUNGMORPHEUS by Rob Klassen
JOINING TRIATHLON ON TOUR THIS FALL
Prolific rapper YUNGMORPHEUS announces his new album A Spyglass to One’s Face, out October 24th via Known Agitators, with distribution by Fat Beats. The album, made in collaboration with Charlotte producer Dirty Art Club, is the rapper’s first offering of the year after his 2024 collaborative album with Alexander Spit, Waking Up and Choosing Violence. As the first offering from the forthcoming album, YUNGMORPHEUS is sharing the full-length’s lead single “Way The Rose Wilt”, along with an accompanying music video directed by Grant Spanier (Bad Bunny, Rosalía, Troye Sivan).
Speaking about the single, Morph describes it as “a bit of a dive into the rabbit hole, if you will. Wrote this at an interesting watershed period personally; some cliches are those for a reason. Time is indeed fleeting…Incidents of nonsense !”
On an intricate sonic canvas from Dirty Art Club that draws cues from hip-hop, psychedelic rock and jazz, Morpheus’ lyricism cuts through with his conversational delivery of heavy realities and caustic humor in equal measure. As a duo, DAC and Morph made a concerted choice to carve out a path for themselves in the rap landscape, respective of the foundational rap canon, but not beholden to it. Inherently in the name and in its lyrical themes, the album is an exercise in personal growth and expansion, with YUNGMORPHEUS’ keen introspection interwoven throughout the album’s 16 songs. The album includes guest features from the likes of YL, Cavalier, Lukah, Zeroh and Ba Pace.
Beginning October 26th, Morph will be joining NY trio Triathlon on tour for a run of live dates across North America, including shows in Montreal, Toronto, Chicago and more before concluding in Portland on November 6th.
Through the course of his career, YUNGMORPHEUS has put together incisively written bodies of work that stretch listener expectations of rap’s limitations. He’s added his own quintessential style to collaborative projects with a diverse set of collaborators ranging from underground hip-hop icons like Pink Siifu and Real Bad Man, to punk pioneer Eyedress and Japanese electronic savant Fumitake Tamura. Across a number of acclaimed projects that collide classic rap sounds with his rap philosophy, YUNGMORPHEUS leaves no stone unturned. He slips autobiographical details and sociological observations into rap music that leaves all the performative jargon behind. It’s music that you can study just as easily as you can let it wash over you on a sunset drive.
