Having already made significant waves with his recent singles “BREAK“, “need 2 breathe” and Josie Man collaboration “Made 2 Luv” in recent months, VC Pines continues the support for his new EP ‘Viole(n)t Colour’, with the kaleidoscopic new single “Chasing The Dragon“.
“Chasing the Dragon” is a haunting, emotionally-charged exploration of toxic love and emotional dependency. Capturing the feeling of being hopelessly drawn to someone who brings more pain than peace, yet still finding it impossible to walk away.
With its evocative title and raw lyricism, VC Pines paints a vivid picture of addiction disguised as love – where the highs are fleeting, the lows are devastating, and both people are caught in a cycle they can’t break. It’s a vulnerable confession of knowing something is wrong but craving it anyway, delivering heartbreak with cinematic intensity.
Speaking about “Chasing The Dragon”, he said, “Chasing the dragon Is about love that you can’t let go of despite it being the reason for your suffering. You’re addicted to this person yet you know they’re no good for you, and you’re no good for each other.”
VC Pines’ new EP ‘Viole(n)t Colour’ is a raw, deeply personal collection born from the aftermath of emotional and creative burnout. Emerging from a period of intense isolation and exhaustion – after releasing the ‘MRI’ album independently, navigating two self-managed tours, and watching personal relationships unravel – the EP captures both the fragility and resilience of rebuilding from nothing.
Speaking about the EP, he said, “I spent most of last year recovering from a mental crash-landing after dropping the MRI album without a manager, without a label, running two tours and burning out. A load of other sh*t happened when I came back and I just felt like I’d lost my creative outlet, closest relationships and reason for being here. It took a minute but I got writing again and found a way to continue releasing music. This EP is a mix of songs I’ve been holding on to for a while, and songs that helped me get through the last 6-12 months. To me, Viole(n)t Colour feels small, with rough edges, like a pinecone in your pocket, though it has moments of huge self realisation, and potential to grow into the biggest pine in the forest.“
