From today through September 14, Theater Rotterdam is hosting TRACK 2025; an immersive two-hour walking experience that takes you through the building and even out into the city. It’s not your typical night at the theater. Expect dance, music, fashion, and performance popping up in unexpected places, all curated by artistic director Alida Dors and co-produced by Tjon Rockon.
Alida Dors handpicked a powerful lineup of artists to give you a taste of what’s coming this season at TR. You’ll see work from choreographers Alice Ripoll and Cheroney Pelupessy, theatermaker Dionne Verwey, the creative collective Grande Loge, and musician Kay Slice. Each brings their own unique voice, but together they form a vibrant mix of stories, styles, and sounds.
The theme of TRACK 2025 is Sample, Scratch & Rewind, a nod to hip-hop’s remix culture, where past, present, and future collide. Artists rework earlier pieces, share previews of new work, and remix cultural influences from across continents and generations.
Expect tributes to Ghanaian heritage, queer protest history, sneaker culture, and a subtle homage to Time(r) a legendary Rotterdam street artist known for his raw graffiti style and iconic tags across the city. He passed away in November 2024, but his influence lives on. TRACK 2025 honors him with digital clocks placed along the route, echoing the way his work appeared: everywhere, but not always seen.
“It’s a subtle nod to Timer,” says co-producer Tjon Rockon. “The route takes you through the theater and out into the city. Along the way, you’ll spot digital clocks. Some people will notice them, others won’t. Just like Timer’s tags around Rotterdam: they’re everywhere, but not always seen. At the start of the route, there’s even a kind of ritual where we talk about time itself.”
TRACK 2025 is completely sold out. If you’ve got a ticket, you’re in for something special. Stay tuned as more is coming soon about Tjon Rockon and a new website dedicated to Timer, currently being developed by his loved ones. It’ll be a place to learn more about his life, his work, and the legacy he left behind.
