On August 22, singer, songwriter and producer Nourished By Time will release his second album ‘The Passionate Ones‘ via XL Recordings/Beggars. The album was created in Baltimore, London and New York and is an intense and personal statement: twelve tracks that expose the unrest of our time and search for hope.
The first single is the song “Max Potential“. The accompanying video was directed by Marcus Brown and shot beneath David Hammons’ Day’s End sculpture in New York.
Nourished By Time was born in late 2019 in Los Angeles as Marcus Brown’s escape from the grind of his part-time job and the sense of powerlessness in an increasingly corrupt world. Incorporating personal experiences and sharp observations into his music, he has created a unique sound shaped by the rich musical heritage of his hometown of Baltimore, where jazz, punk, indie, hip-hop, electronic and R&B come together in harmony.
On ‘The Passionate Ones’, Brown explores themes of love, labor, existentialism, dreams, disillusionment and hope through the lens of metamodernism. The album tells an American story of an artist using his weaknesses to keep himself afloat while continuing to follow his passions and dreams.
Nourished By Time opened 2023 with ‘Erotic Probiotic 2 (Scenic Route)’ — the album earned Pitchfork’s Best New Music, topped Gorilla vs Bear’s year-end list, and earned praise from The Guardian, The FADER, Paste, and more. The follow-up EP, ‘Catching Chickens’ (2024), only further cemented his appeal, landing him on the cover of CRACK Magazine and naming “Hell of a Ride” their song of the year. Nourished By Time has collaborated with the likes of Yaeji, Kacy Hill, and evilgiane, and toured with Metronomy, Panda Bear, and Toro y Moi.
