#AOTC WORLD TOUR BEGINS FEBRUARY 27TH
“a breath of fresh air in a humid room” – The New Yorker
“Every year, he seems to drop the best confessional of his life” – NPR
“Destined to be a legend” – Pitchfork
“MIKE has one of the most quietly prolific catalogs in hip-hop right now” – Rolling Stone
MIKE, nèe Michael Bonema, shares new single “Bear Trap.” Co-produced by longtime collaborator Darryl Johnson and MIKE, under his dj blackpower alias, the new song and its accompanying video directed by Chris Currence, is the latest offering and opening track of his imminent new album Showbiz!, out January 31st via 10k. Alongside the new single, MIKE has unveiled the album’s cover artwork by Tzadi and the full tracklist, which includes features from 454 and duendita, and guest production from Thelonious Martin, Salami Rose Joe Louis, Jacob Rochester, Anysia Kym, Harrison (SURF GANG), ShunGu, Laron and redLee. Showbiz! examines the various iterations of himself that MIKE has shared through his music, and reflects on the upsides and downsides of reaching success as a professional musician: the higher highs and lower lows of show business.
His tenth solo album at only 26 years old, Showbiz! sets a new benchmark for himself and his contemporaries as MIKE steps into the next chapter of his career as a proven, essential voice in hip-hop this decade. The album’s 24 songs crystallize the sound that MIKE has been honing across a prolific discography that documents his progression as an artist and a person in real time. Showbiz! examines the various iterations of himself that MIKE has shared through his music and reflects on the past several years of his ascension as an artist to paint a cohesive picture of who he wants to be moving forward.
MIKE capped off an unprecedented run of projects and collaborations with the likes of Earl Sweatshirt, Wiki, The Alchemist and more over the past two years with Pinball, a creative reunion with producer Tony Seltzer. Rolling Stone called the project “a fearless sonic shift” and injected an unexpected, invigorated new energy to MIKE’s catalog, which has primarily been lauded for his incisive writing. He celebrated that moment with the 4th edition of his annual Young World festival in Brooklyn last Summer, which has come to be regarded as one of the premiere events on New York’s Summer calendar, aimed at giving its 8,000+ attendees a space to express themselves.
In support of Showbiz!, MIKE will embark on the biggest tour of his career, a 71-date run across the UK, Europe and North America this Spring, which begins in Ireland in late February. Tickets are available at aotctour.com.
