MARNZ MALONE, THE UK’S HOTTEST RISING RAPPER, ENLISTS YOUNG TRAP BOY GIO FOR “FREE MINNIE”

AHEAD OF HIGHLY ANTICIPATED MIXTAPE ‘SABR’ DROPPING 14TH FEB

GAINED OVER 60+ MILLION STREAMS IN 12 MONTHS

Fresh off the release of I Hate January, landing #3 in Trending Music on YouTube and accumulating over 230,000 views in under a week, Marnz Malone is gearing supporters up for the release of his forthcoming mixtape ‘Sabr’ dropping February 14th. Continuing to build momentum, the hotly tipped ‘One To Watch’ rapper has enlisted Young Trap Boy Gio for his latest thought-provoking release, Free Minnie. Gaining support from COLORS, The Guardian, TRENCH, New Wave Magazine, Crack Magazine, and more with his previous single, Marnz Malone is on a mission to solidify his bubbling status as the UK’s hottest rap riser.

Raising further awareness into life incarceration, Marnz Malone emphasises the importance of making better decisions, influencing his audience to steer clear of a life behind bars instead of celebrating it’s lifestyle. Flowing effortlessly over a thought-provoking production, Marnz unravels a captivating narrative by leaning into personal anecdotes, creating a vulnerable track that emphasises his acclaimed storytelling ability. Enlisting fellow newcomer Young Trap Boy Gio, the accompanying music video is shot as a point of view surrounding “groundhog day”. Posing as a day in the life in prison, we take a glimpse at the repetitive activities behind bars.

When asked about the meaning behind the single Marnz Malone explained, “This is the second single from the mixtape and also the second track, Free Minnie. Every time I drop a mixtape, the second track is always ‘Free Somebody’—it’s my way of remembering my bredrins who have long sentences, especially my lifers.

Minnie is one of my old school friends. Since his sentence, he’s become deeply religious, so for the video, I wanted to reflect that. I created a visualiser that captures the monotony of jail life—the repetitive, groundhog day feeling. But for him, the routine has meaning because of his faith, so I tried to bring that into the visuals. My last two videos have been about showing how unglamorous jail really is.”

About Marnz Malone

Rapper Marnz Malone is one of the hottest prospects in UK music. Born and raised in Spanish Town Jamaica, he moved to England around the age of 6 years old, more specifically Birmingham Newtown.

His Jamaican roots influenced his music heavily and he was constantly surrounded by music “Vybz Kartel & Movado’s clash at Sting was probably the first time I realised the impact of music because the whole gaza vs gully thing was massive where I’m from.” Moving to Newtown in Birmingham, the rap scene there began to influence him, and this is where he realised the power of music.

His love and enjoyment for music and the emotions it makes you feel made Marnz Malone take that step further and begin recording his own tracks, realising it could change his life and the lives of those around him.

Releasing a steady number of projects with his debut ‘Trenchfoot’ in 2022, ‘Maktub’ in August 2023 and ‘Tina’s Boy’ at the beginning of 2024, all representing different times and feelings throughout his journey, allowing him to say things he struggles to say.

Drawing from personal experiences and struggles, Marnz Malone creates an emotive, raw, vulnerable and honest sound that connects to his listeners on a profound level and captures them.
