What happens when you chart through the restless waters of the Self? Instead of seeking refuge among the familiar and mundane, what if we welcome its turbulent waves—submit to their relentless lapping against the very boundaries we so often rail ourselves into?
In spaces where we cower, coveting the comforts of yearning rather than the pains of growth,
let us liberate ourselves to the unknown. Why limit the beauty, strength, and complexity of our
inner-selves when it can take center stage? In all their glory and humility, it is this toward which
we endlessly struggle and from which, endlessly, we struggle to escape.
Mami Wata; a music fashion film, a spiritual journey.
A joint collaboration undertaken by Phoebe Ngozi and Aerin Agyei (creative direction & styling);
this project aims to explore the connection with ancestral spirits through diasporic identity. The
pursuit of fluidity in body and spirit is embodied through the inter-play of fashion and music.
Ultimately finding power in movement and fluidity, Ngozi celebrates the way in which culture and
selfhood evolve, flow, and transform.
If there is one load we have been burdened to carry, let it be that of personal acceptance.
Humanity is our burden, our life; we need not battle for it; we need only do what is infinitely more
difficult –that is, accept it.
Mami Wata is a token of that burden.
