An irresistible new fusion of Moroccan amazigh and South African 3-step cut from one of electronic music’s most versatile producers alongside a fast-rising vocal powerhouse

Two Surinamese-Dutch powerhouses, Jarreau Vandal and Amazone, unite for the sizzling new single ‘Heartless’, out 8th August.

Heartless’ rides a 3-step, gqom-style beat — deep, subby, and loaded with synthetic flutes and sharp vocal ad libs. It hits just as hard in a strobe-lit basement as it does from a sandy beach speaker. Amazone’s vocals bring brightness and sass, while earthy Latin guitar and smooth chords add warmth and soul.

Jarreau Vandal expands on the inspiration behind Heartless: “It’s about the feeling of infatuation after meeting someone abroad — it was fireworks from the get-go. Unfortunately, you have to leave, and the person is far away, so there’s a certain desperation in wanting to stay in touch. I blend different genres that I’ve never heard combined before. The song contains a sample from legendary Moroccan band Oudaden and is mixed with South African-inspired ‘3-step’ sounds.”

Amazone adds: “Heartless is about the feeling of wearing a mask to protect yourself from catching feelings — until someone comes along who makes you drop it. It’s a genre-blending summer track that merges rhythmic, emotional storytelling with sounds influenced by different cultures. As an artist, I always aim to reflect my mixed background and love for musical fusion in my work. Heartless is a perfect example of that.”

Hailing from the same Surinamese-Dutch roots as Jarreau Vandal, singer-songwriter Amazone (pron. ah-mah-zon-eh) is one of the most irresistible new voices to emerge from the African diaspora. Her debut EP Who Is She? is a bold, characterful five-track introduction to her distinctive sound — a radiant blend of summer-ready talking drum fused withAfrohouse, R&B, neo-soul, and Afrobeat

‘Heartless’, the essential new cut from Jarreau Vandal and Amazone, and anticipated follow-up to Vandal’s incredible single ‘Ritmo’, lands on 8th August.

About Jarreau Vandal:
Dutch producer and DJ Jarreau Vandal is best described as versatile. Raised in a musical family – with a grandfather who was a producer and parents who danced in Amsterdam clubs – Vandal’s earliest memory of music is playing drums in his church band. Exposed to gospel, soul, jazz, and house, he combines these influences into an authentic, one-of-a-kind sound focused on good vibes.

Famous for edits like Rihanna’s ‘Work’ and remixes such as Dua Lipa’s ‘New Love’ and Mahalia’s ‘Sober’ (18M streams), Vandal is now evolving from producer and DJ into a full album artist, displayed through March’s live Surinamese drum-focused ‘Ganga Riddim’ featuring Mehdi Nassouli and Dave Nunes and his 2020 EP, Suburb Superhero: The Villian Within, which featured huge collaborators such as British rapper Kojey Radical, Dutch vocalist Gaidaa, Nigerian singer Tay Iwar, and New Yorker Kiah Victoria.
