The 3rd single from upcoming album ‘Lucky Shot’, ‘The Greatness’ is a beaming soul/funk track about recognising and celebrating your self-worth

“If the early Beck came from a small town in England, he’d sound like Dylan Cartlidge” New York Times

“A Beastie Boys record being warped in a microwave powered by sheer positivity” NME

Life-affirming singer-songwriter Dylan Cartlidge returns with ‘The Greatness’, out today via Glassnote Records.

Following the powerful, message-driven single ‘Show Up’ and the euphoric ‘NEW DAY’, Dylan’s latest gem ‘The Greatness’, co-written and produced by Eg White (Adele, Florence + The Machine, Dua Lipa, Sam Smith) is a quirky beam of musical joy. Through quickfire and playful lyricism bursting with character, Dylan blends humour, pop culture references, and wordplay to celebrate personal growth and confidence. The chorus drives home the theme: even if others don’t see your value, you’re still “the money”, a reminder that true greatness comes from within.

“‘The Greatness’ is about embracing your own individuality & finding your own unique path to self discovery”, says Dylan. “I’ve always felt on the outskirts and a bit of an underdog – whether it be beating the odds to escape the care system, trauma or addiction, I relish that feeling & see it as a test of character and a mark of resilience. Whatever it is that makes you different, maybe learn to love it.”

The Greatness’ is the third glimpse into Dylan’s highly anticipated second album, Lucky Shot, dropping later this year. Shaping up to be a pivotal release, it succeeds Dylan’s first album, Hope Above Adversity. Released in 2021, Hope Above Adversity marked a bold and joyful debut for the rapper, singer, and multi-instrumentalist from Redcar in the North-East of England. Receiving support across the industry, including The New York TimesNME, NPRBBC Radio 1, multiple Top 40 Alternative & AAA chart placements in the USA and more, it was praised for its eclectic blend of soul, hip-hop, and leftfield pop, showcasing Dylan’s relentless optimism and innate musicality in the face of a difficult upbringing that included time in foster care and a failed adoption. Critics, including The New York Times, who likened him to a “young Beck”, Annie MacJack SaundersClashDIY, and Pigeons & Planes lauded the album, and NPR named him one of their World Café 30 Under 30 artists.

From the coastal town of Redcar in Yorkshire, Dylan Cartlidge’s sound is born from a journey of resilience and individuality. Raised in the care system, he faced childhood hardships, from instability to poverty, and at 16 made the life-changing decision to leave behind his past and rebuild, a story narrated in the remarkable Hope Above Adversity LP. He’s gone on to collaborate with artists such as Black Thought, Danger Mouse, Russ, and Superorganism, completed a UK-wide 13-date headline tour, and performed at SXSWBBC Radio 1 Big Weekend, and on the BBC Introducing Stage at Glastonbury, as well as supporting Superorganism on their tour in 2022.

The Greatness’ is out now and is the third preview of Dylan Cartlidge’s forthcoming second album Lucky Shot.
