Cameron Hayes makes her long-awaited solo return with “Lover, Please Stay”, a soaring, emotionally charged anthem that marks a defining new chapter for the multifaceted singer-songwriter. Known to many as a sought-after voice in the drum and bass world, Hayes has spent the last few years lending her haunting vocals and lyricism to tracks by heavyweights including Wilkinson, Dimension, Sub Focus, and Notion. Stepping out of the shadows and into a space that is unmistakably her own, “Lover, Please Stay” is a definitive mark on this new chapter.
A dramatic and vulnerable letter wrapped in atmospheric production, “Lover, Please Stay” is a love song from beyond the grave. Underpinned by a driving bassline and glistening, melancholic textures, the track captures the moment a lover sits beside her grave at sunrise, catching up on time gone by. “I’ve always feared death, not for myself but for the people I love,” Cameron explains. “This song is an imagination of a time after I’ve passed, and my lover is sat by my grave, while the sun rises, talking to me as if I was still there. They feel the reassurance that this isn’t the end, only a pause in this life, and that one day we will be reunited.”
“Lover, Please Stay” is the confidently executed, creative turning point for Cameron. Having first-hand faced the drawbacks of being a female topliner in a male dominated space, Cameron was inspired to make a change for herself and her own creative pathway. Armed with an incredible listenership of over 620,000 committed ears and a fanbase that spans festivals, radio, and moments online, Hayes veers into an evolved sound, one that pays homage to her former incarnation but one that concurrently excites a new direction. With standout penmanship at the core of Cameron’s greatest achievements to date, she continues to position herself not just as a vocalist, but as a deeply capable songwriter and storyteller, one with a strong visual world, emotional depth, and, most importantly, with a story of their own to tell.
