Album Cover Inspiration
Bulletproof Soul’s album cover is inspired by A Tribe Called Quest’s Midnight Marauders for its community approach and lasting impact on Hip-Hop culture. Community, collectivism, and solidarity are key themes to Grasping Things at the Root and the album cover helps present this. The album cover features Bulletproof Soul members such as Angela Davis, Amouranth, Nyyjerya, Austin Moore-Farrow, Lofty305, DJ Sabrina the Teenage DJ, JACOB SONGS, SLWJMZ, Luci Lane, Mike Honcho, Alek Oni, Unkwnexposure, Nile Fortner, Ali Wisdom, TWENTYN9NE, Wolvenoir, Lauren Ashcraft, Kengeta, FK Garland, and eqobKING.
“It is important to remember at the end of the day, community can solve our problems; organizing, unionizing, being there for one another. Community and culture is the root of society, not money and greed. Because without each other, we are just a drifting rose in a sea of faces,” Bulletproof Soul exclaimed.
Around the album’s border includes an adapted poem from William Morris (artist and poet) which helps illustrate themes throughout the concept album such as dialectical materialism, class consciousness, mortality and more. There also is not a root featured on the album cover implying that society, as a whole, does not grasp things at the root. This lends itself to a narrative of social conditioning found through Grasping Things at the Root. More conceptual meaning can be found on the album’s Genius annotations.
Grasping Things at the Root (2023) by Bulletproof Soul
Bulletproof Soul has announced the upcoming 2023 release of Grasping Things at the Root, a collaborative album featuring Bulletproof Soul artists. “This is music for the people, by the people,” said Austin Farrow, Founder of Bulletproof Soul.The album features Bulletproof Soul artists such as Nyyjerya, DJ Sabrina the Teenage DJ, Lofty305 (formerly of Metro Zu and Raider Klan), Austin, eqobKING, Kengeta, TWENTYN9NE, SLWJMZ, JACOB SONGS, Clark the Healer, Ali Wisdom, and Shintek Beats. It additionally features the likes of Angela Davis and Amouranth on its cover.
“This album is a neo-soul and hip-hop introduction to our collective and approach to the music industry,” said Founder Austin Farrow.
