Emerging New Zealand indie-pop band Borderline has released their latest single, ‘New Romance,’ via EMPIRE and is available today on all major streaming platforms. Known for their emotionally resonant sound and vibrant live energy, Borderline’s newest track is a lush, melodic dive into the thrill and vulnerability of modern love.
The band share, “‘New Romance’ is one of our most emotionally vulnerable songs, and there’s a warmth to it that we really love. We wanted to capture that mix of intimacy and comfort and we hope it’s a feeling people can connect with.” Listen/share ‘New Romance’ here and watch the video, directed by Tom Grut below
‘New Romance’ is the follow up to Borderline’s recent single, the evocative ‘When It’s Raining.’ The song marked their first since inking a deal with global independent record label EMPIRE and came as the band made their live debut in the US where they played to packed rooms across SXSW, New York City and Los Angeles.
Borderline is Ben Glanfield (guitar, vocals), Jackson Boswell (drums, vocals), Matthew McFadden (lead guitar), and Max Harries (bass).
Matthew and Jackson’s decade-long musical partnership began in primary school with Ben joining the band in 2021 and Max completing the lineup in 2023 after meeting at Auckland University Music School. In 2024, Borderline became their full-time commitment.
Their debut EP Perfect Movie Scene (2023) built on three high school-era singles that all charted on New Zealand’s RadioScope and Official NZ Hot Singles Charts, received national commercial radio play, and broke into North America’s College Radio Top 200. Known for their dynamic live shows and smooth, hook-driven sound, Borderline has played major New Zealand festivals and headlined tours across the country. Recent singles ‘When It’s Raining’ and ‘Heartbeat’ charted in New Zealand and earned international attention landing on key DSP playlists including New Music Friday, New in Pop, and Alt Pop, as well as receiving radio support across Australia (Triple J, SYN), the UK (BBC Radio 1, student radio), and college stations across the U.S.
