BJ THE CHICAGO KID TEAMES UP WITH RISING R&B STAR COCO JONES

The sultry late summer jam is the latest offering from BJ the Chicago Kid’s upcoming album project with Yeti Beats

Grammy-nominated R&B soul singer and songwriter BJ the Chicago Kid has teamed up with rising R&B star Coco Jones on soulful new single ‘Spend The Night’, ready to soundtrack those late summer nights.

Released on 8th September via RCA RecordsSpend The Night is a sultry pop-soul track taken from BJ’s forthcoming album project. With a nostalgic yet timeless feel in homage to classic soul duets, its uptempo groove and shimmering synths are the perfect backdrop to BJ  and Coco’s caramel smooth vocals.

Elaborating on the new song, BJ The Chicago Kid says, “Music is like a journey, and with our new song, we’ve taken an exciting detour from our standard sounds. It’s an experimental experience. Sometimes, you have to wander off the beaten path to discover a whole new world of creativity.”

Jones adds, “Working with BJ was such an awesome experience. I am always so inspired by artists who love what they do. I think this song, with our tones together, is something really special.”

Spend The Night stands to continue to accelerate BJ’s success in 2023, following the reaction to previous singles ‘Forgot Your Name’ featuring Cory Henry and ‘Liquor Store In The Sky’ featuring Freddie Gibbs. The feel-good singles offer a glimpse into his upcoming multi-track project in collaboration with producer Yeti Beats (Doja Cat’smusical right hand). The album is an organic music match made in heaven that materialised in less than a week.

Set to drop this autumn, BJ and Yeti’s forthcoming project was recorded with a live band in Memphis, Tennessee at Royal Studios, the home of soul legend Al Green whose ‘70s mellow grooves served as inspiration for the album’s overall sound. Features will include Coco Jones,  Audra Day, Phillip Bailey of Earth Wind and Fire, and a well-rounded cast of friends.

With gospel-soaked vocals, BJ first touched hearts with his debut independent album Pineapple Now-Laters in 2012 but quickly gained increased attention the following year with songs like ‘Honey’ and ‘Good Luv’n’ featuring frequent collaborators Freddie Gibbs and Problem.  2014 proved to be BJ’s brea kout year when he appeared on SchoolBoy Q’s Grammy award-winning single “Studio” and released his fourth mixtape, The M.A.F.E. Project, which included rap assists from Q, Gibbs, and Smoke DZA.

In 2016, BJ released his impressive major-label debut, In My Mind, which earned the son of the Windy City three Grammy nominations, including Best R&B album. Across his career, BJ’s soul-stirring talent has garnered everything from cosigns and collaborations with Kanye West, Chance The Rapper, Kendrick Lamar, Solange, and Eric Bellinger.
