Today, Benét shares a new single and video “Radio Silence” featuring fellow NY artist Margaux. “Radio Silence” is the second song off Benét’s forthcoming album Make ‘Em Laugh due June 20th via Bayonet Records. The song opens with Benét’s raw vocals that lead the track alongside lyrics that ponder where his partner goes in the midst of their lost communication. The song ends with no real resolution beyond Benét’s clear voice. “Radio Silence” comes alongside a Shayan Farooq-directed video featuring a string of secrets circling Benét in a dark room where he is ultimately caught in a sea of anguished voices that have no sound.

Speaking about the single Benét shares, “‘Radio Silence’ is a big song made by two little guys—me and Carlos Truly—with help from some incredible musicians. It features Margaux, an artist I admire deeply, who brings a context to the song that makes everything settle into place. It’s awesome, full of the thoughts I didn’t know how to say out loud until now. This song is a release, in more ways than one. The video is sick too.”

“Radio Silence” follows Benét’s single “Wonder,” a contemplative guitar ballad that weaves his vocals with sampled audio of friends asking honest questions surrounding love and connection. At its core, Benét thinks of his forthcoming album, Make ‘Em Laugh, as a game of Clue. He’s trying to map out exactly when and how a relationship failed. Benét shares, “I was left behind romantically and I was really feeling that. I was wondering, ‘Am I going to be okay?’ How did I get to a place where we’re not cool? Was it all me?’”

Benét’s ability to traverse many complex and conflicting emotional states informs the sound of the music: the album is dynamic, vibrant, and genre fluid. The project  also features celebrated singer-songwriter Faye Webster who features on the title track and singer AnnonXL on “Slimmer” where the two trade off verses as the production transforms from crystalline and gentle to thrillingly noisy and energized.

Make ‘Em Laugh is full of moments of heartache, resentment and regret, but despite these moments of pain, a sense of soaring optimism drives the album forward. Make ‘Em Laugh is a document of discovery and self-realization, and is full of questions rather than answers. Open-hearted inquiry is a skill Benét learned in therapy, which he started going to while working on the project. “You’re not going to know everything,” he says. “This world does not give you cheat sheet answers. But as long as you know what you want to know, you can get a bit of freedom from just asking.”

The new album follows Benét’s debut record, Can I go again?, that embraced more organic instrumentals symbolizing a reset with greater knowledge, maturity, and confidence and featured singles “No Alarm,” “Overpowering,” and “Insensitive.”
