SHARES NEW SINGLE “MONONOKE”
ISOLA OUT FEBRUARY 20TH
Spanish and African-American artist Gabriela Richardson announces the release of her debut album ISOLA, arriving February 20th. The announcement is accompanied by the release of her new single and music video, “Mononoke,” an intimate introduction to the world of her forthcoming album.
Written after a formative trip to Mallorca, “Mononoke” captures the quiet nostalgia of a moment still unfolding. Inspired by the gentle yet piercing sound of Arthur Verocai and the anime film Princess Mononoke, the track reflects on self-acceptance and the tension between one’s light and shadow. Sung in Spanish, the song explores the weight of embracing every facet of identity, from the tender to the uncomfortable.
“Mononoke” marks Richardson’s first time producing her own music and composing with wind instruments. The track was shaped alongside Barcelona-based producer Gerard Valeta, with additional production from Pierre Rousseau, whose contributions expanded the song’s sonic universe. Though the hardest song for Richardson to release, “Mononoke” stands as the emotional core of ISOLA, and a defining statement of what’s to come.
ISOLA unfolds as a universe where stillness, memory, and self‑reflection move in quiet harmony. The album’s early glimpses suggest a landscape where Mediterranean stillness meets diasporic memory, where her voice moves like a tide between vulnerability and resolve. “Mononoke” functions as the album’s threshold: step through it, and you enter a space where personal mythology becomes a form of truth-telling. It’s the kind of debut that doesn’t ask for attention but earns it through precision, restraint, and a quiet boldness.
What makes this moment compelling is how Richardson positions herself: not as a newcomer chasing volume, but as an artist confident enough to let silence, breath, and texture carry meaning. ISOLA promises an album built on thoughtful self‑exploration, a debut where emotional detail becomes a defining strength. If “Mononoke” is any indication, Richardson is less interested in fitting into existing narratives and more invested in carving out her own, one carefully crafted layer at a time.
