AHEAD OF SOLD-OUT SHOW AT ROYAL ALBERT HALL ON FRIDAY
Inhaler release their brand new single ‘Hole In The Ground’ on Polydor Records. The song is the first new music to be shared by the Irish quartet since the release of their critically-acclaimed third album ‘Open Wide’ in February and was recorded with the album’s producer Kid Harpoon at Abbey Road Studios. It arrives as the band ready themselves for their sold-out show at London’s iconic Royal Albert Hall on Friday (31st).
The sweeping, panoramic rock of ‘Hole In The Ground’ is the sound of INHALER at their most emotionally epic, a yearning anthem blending melancholic hooks, layered guitars and gauzy atmospherics underpinned by a hypnotically pulsing groove.
“To us, ‘Hole In The Ground’ is a song that was born out of our stream of consciousness.
Some time away from writing allowed us to go into the studio with a sort of blank slate which felt inspiring,” frontman Eli Hewson says.
“It can be hard to talk about the meaning of your own songs sometimes but we see it as something fragile growing amongst a wreckage. Or that last blurry memory you have of a person. It’s sort of a meditation on hope and keeping yourself awake to life.”
It’s been a milestone year for bandmates Elijah Hewson, Robert Keating, Ryan McMahon, and Josh Jenkinson. Their critically acclaimed third studio album, ‘Open Wide,’ debuted at number one on the Official Irish Albums Chart and took the number two spot in the Official UK charts. The Open Wide World Tour has seen the childhood friends play their biggest UK headline shows to date—including two sold out shows at Brixton Academy and a sold-out, triumphant performance at the Liverpool M&S Bank Arena – alongside extensive dates across Europe, the US, and Asia. They also delivered storming sets at Glastonbury and TRNSMT.
Produced by Grammy and Brit Award-winning Kid Harpoon, ‘Open Wide’ reinforces Inhaler’s status as the ultimate modern guitar band, a group for whom jubilant pop melodies, intricate grooves and rock’n’roll dynamism are kindred spirits rather than strangers. It hones the sweeping, euphoric singalongs of their first two albums It Won’t Always Be Like This and Cuts & Bruises, into something more fully formed, a record you can lose yourself in and one where every track feels like it could be a big single. Sonically, it’s an album where the band’s love of T.Rex, early MGMT, Prince, Depeche Mode and more nestles alongside the indie and garage-rock influences of their teens and is a majestic celebration of who Inhaler are and everything they’ve done to get to this point.
Since their career launched in 2018, INHALER have been among the biggest new names in guitar music, achieving commercial success with roaring chart positions. To date, they’ve sold over half a million albums globally and garnered 500 million streams. Their debut album, It Won’t Always Be Like This, hit #1 in the UK and Ireland, while their 2023 follow-up, Cuts & Bruises, topped the Irish charts and reached #2 in the UK.
