Norwegian indie-electronic artist Fig Tape returns with his most urgent and affecting release to date. Out now, “Miracle” is a bold new single that blends lo-fi textures, warped synths, and intimate songwriting to address one of the most pressing issues of our time: climate change.
Written during a late-night winter studio session, “Miracle” sees Fig Tape push his sonic boundaries in unexpected ways. “I already had the vision in mind, I wanted to create this indie-electronic hybrid with warped, surreal synths,” he says. “One of the more unexpected parts of making the track was recording some of the vocals through an actual telephone microphone I rigged into my interface. That gritty, lo-fi texture you hear, that’s straight from that setup.”
The track was inspired in part by the Danish series Families Like Ours, which depicts a near future where families are forced to emigrate due to climate catastrophe. The show left a deep impact on Fig Tape. “It really stuck with me. The premise doesn’t feel that far off—we’re heading toward a future where these things might be inevitable,” he explains. “Miracle is my attempt to express that anxiety and urgency. Climate change is one of the most pressing threats to humanity, and I wish more artists were confronting it head-on.” Like the TV-show, the music video portrays the emotional distance within a family facing an uncertain future, a quiet echo of the larger disconnection unfolding around them.
Fig Tape has been undeniably carving out his place in the European music scene with a sound that fuses bedroom pop intimacy with club-ready electronics. Most recent Expectations EP drew strong support from Spotify editorial playlists including Oyster, Fresh Finds, and Metropolis, and received widespread praise across Norwegian radio, including consistent airplay on NRK P3 since October 2023. His music has also been featured in Netflix’s breakout series Young Royals, further amplifying his fiercely growing international profile.
Live, Fig Tape has made waves with standout performances at Eurosonic Festival and SOHO Calling, as well as tour support for Norwegian pop star Sigrid. Taking his genre-blurring DJ sets and immersive live shows across Denmark, Sweden, the UK, and the Netherlands, including a memorable night at Berlin’s legendary Ritter Butzke.
In 2024, Fig Tape was named a finalist in NRK P3’s prestigious “Urørt” competition, highlighting him as one of Norway’s most promising new artists, catching the attention of tastemakers like Zane Lowe, who recently spotlighted his work on Apple Music Radio.
A boundary-pushing producer as well as a vocalist, Fig Tape has collaborated with a growing roster of acclaimed artists, including Korean group ”ILLIT”, GoldLink, KiLLOWEN, BAUGRUPPE90, and Britney Manson.
The accompanying video for Miracle, directed by Jon Olav S. Gulbrandsen, has been nominated at one of Norway’s most prestigious short film festivals, further underscoring the track’s cinematic and socially conscious reach.
